With the worries for environmental sustainability right around the corner, the Kingdom has laid out a word amidst the world chaos that aims to reduce carbon footprints, lead towards a sustainable future; and targets to reach the “net zero” club of nations by 2050.
The Kingdom aims to reach “net-zero” greenhouse gas emissions by 2060, joining more than 100 countries in their journey to turn the road that has more greenery on its side paths, all the while maintaining its current position as one of the world’s largest oil producers. Prince Mohammed stated, “the kingdom would undertake a Carbon Circular Economy approach. The transition to net-zero carbon emissions will be delivered in a manner that preserves the kingdom’s leading role in enhancing the security and stability of global energy markets.”
The cherry on the top, the Government is the vehicle that turns the Prince’s words into tangible aid, by taking various measures within its Vision 2030: Saudi Green, primarily focusing on reducing carbon emissions by more than 4% of the global contributors, planting 10 billion trees across the Nation and raising protected areas to more than 30% of total land area.
With the government taking pathbreaking measures to deviate from the traditional practices, the future of a greener kingdom and planet does not seem far off, however, the paths less trodden are usually the tougher ones; with only one conclusion that needs to be drawn in the coming future – are the nations strong enough to trod the paths they have envisioned?
